Danny Lewis

(Afro Art)

Danny Lewis has been producing music for over a decade. His first single 'Best Friends' with UK Reggae star Don Ricardo was released to critical acclaim in 1993 and swiftly followed up by the 'Four to the Floor' EP on Stronghouse. Leading cut from the EP 'Spend the Night' became a huge underground success and promoted Danny to the upper ranks of those few UK producers who were making the US House sound at that time.

Releases and remixes followed on labels such as Ministry of Sound, Shindig, Imperial and many more bringing support from his heros; US House jocks such as Kerri Chandler, Tony Humphries and Masters at Work. In fact the MAW connection came to the fore when a collaboration with legendary NYC DJ Kenny Carpenter and Bugz in the Attic's Daz I Que was signed to the MAW imprint making Danny one of the first UK Producers to achieve a release on such a respected label. When the UK Garage scene blew up Danny Achieved a top 30 national chart hit with the re-released 'Spend the Night and teamed up with Daz I Que to form 'Da Funkstarz' remixing several major artists such as Damage, Adeva, Celetia and several RnB artists for Young Disciples' Femi Fem.

After a couple of years break from the limelight, Danny developed his sound and experimented with rhythms from around the globe, particularly Africa and Brazil in the form of his alter ego 'Hubert Hudson' Several releases on Arthrob records saw one of his tracks, a collaboration with singer/songwriter Simon Jinadu, become a Miami WMC party favourite with Bugz in the Attic's Orin Walters and other leading DJs on the scene. The West London 'Broken Beat' scene was increasing as an influence and Danny was asked by a local dj and club promoter to help him with his production. The first track Danny produced for him, 'Green Gold' became one of the biggest dancefloor hits of 2003 and was successfully promoted and released on the well respected Afro Art Records label.

Seeing there was some common ground they joined forces for a while & Danny became known across the globe as the production guru behind the name Spiritual South. Countless remixes followed including massive hits such as Max Sedgely's Happy - used by ITV for their Euro 2004 coverage and also the remix of legendary DJ Paul Murphy's tune Jazz Room which was championed by BBC Radio 1 Worldwide Show Presenter Gilles Peterson. Dannys set up shop on his own now & has been snapped up by Defected Records for his first solo release, "Ballistica" which is an absolute belter. It's already being hammered by the likes of X-Press 2's Ashley Beedle and Martin Solveig (who Danny has just done a remix for) and is going to be a huge huge tune at the next WMC.
