Eddie Pillar

A veteran of 20 years Music Industry

Eddie has discovered and developed some of the biggest names in Soul and Jazz music through his own label, Acid Jazz records. His experience covers all aspects of the industry; Record Producer, Radio Presenter, Club DJ, Company CEO, Music Publishing, Night Club ownership as well as Magazine and Video/TV Production. He has worked for a number of Major labels as both an employee and a consultant, and produced/remixed a broad variety of musical genres.

Eddie set up Acid Jazz with his partner, Radio One DJ Gilles Peterson, in 1987. The label’s international success was followed in 1994 when he opened the now-legendary Blue Note Club in London’s Hoxton. This innovative club ran for five years, providing a launchpad for superstars like Goldie and Bjork to name but a few, and picked up the award for Best Club of The Decade in Time Out’s influential Millennium awards. Previously at both Jazz FM and BBC GLR, Eddie is currently presenting a specialist radio show on www.soul24-7.com. Acid Jazz Records was established in 1987 by Eddie Piller and Gilles Peterson as a tongue-in-cheek response to the Acid House explosion. The label rapidly began producing records that although contained very little "Jazz" and even less "Acid", became the ultimate symbol of 90's chic.

There can be few record labels where the very name becomes synonymous with the music. Motown, Philly, Stax, Studio One. Acid Jazz. There now follows a selection of their latest artists and back catalogue favourites. Galliano, Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai, James Taylor Quartet, D-Influence, Corduroy and Goldbug all got their first break with the label. Acid Jazz maintained its momentum by spreading its wings to encompass indie imprint Focus, drum ‘n’ bass label All Seeing Eye and a reggae label Acid Jazz Roots. Latest editions to the Acid Jazz stable include El Toro, a garage rock label featuring among others new music from Thomas Potter (the Dirt Bombs) and Detroit producer Jim Diamond. With the 15th anniversary approaching Acid Jazz is still growing stronger and finding new talent to nurture.
