Gordon Ritchie,now based in West London began hisDj'ing career
in Aberdeen.
After amassing a large record collection and playingoccasionally at parties
and in bars Gordon was offered his first club spot and within weeks was
a resident.Spurred on he approached Aberdeens legendary Pelican Club for
a gig and again within weeks was madethe Saturday night resident ,Dj'ing
alongside the likes of Danny Rampling,Ashley Beedle,Justin Robertson, Billy
Nasty and many more.
After two and half years there, Gordon was approached by a local promoter,asking if he would be interested in doing his own nights where he could dictate themusic policy.Gordon jumped at the chance and the Lowlife nights were born. 8 years later and after various venue changes Lowlife continues on a monthly basis now at The Subway in Aberdeen.(on the site of the old Pelican Club)After the 1st year of Lowlife events, a 2nd monthly club,Lifestyle was added.Again this night still continues 7 years later at The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen.
Although primarily residents based, Gordon has played host to many of the worlds greatest DJ,s and live act's including Jazzanova,Faze Action,Talvin Singh,Snowboy,James Lavelle,Nathan Haines,The Underwolves,Victor Davies,Gil-Scott Heron,Terry Callier,London Elektricity,Nightmares on Wax,Nitin Sawney and many ,many more.
The immediate succes of these nights lead to 2 weekly residencies for Gordon.Kojak which ran every Friday, for two and a half years and People Get Ready a Sunday nighter where Gordon spun alongside the likes of Norman Jay and Andy Smith.Gordon found himself in demand and as well as playing at every bar and club in Aberdeen he started playing around Scotland at clubs like The Big Beat in Edinburgh,Homeless in Dundee,gigs for Scottish promoters Assembly Direct,radio shows for Festival FM and supplying radio mixes for Radio Scotland.
Gordon made his debut in London at Overlikeafatrat at the Notting Hill Arts Club which lead to him becoming a regular guest of the residents StJohn de Zilva and Dr.Bob Jones with whom he has and continues to play all over London. Moving to London coincided for Gordon with a move into production as part of The Mindset.Their first release was included on "The New Testament of Funk"Vol.3 LP,and their debut single "Get Set" was released on Afro Art Records to worlwide acclaim,with more releases in the pipeline.
Gordon can also be found Dj,ing around London at clubs like Fabric,333,The Elbow Rooms,The Redstar,The Fez and also at clubs across the UK. He has been described by Loaded magazine as "one of the finest DJ lords in the country" He describes his eclectic style as Breakbeat Funk,Afro-Latin Vibrations,Soul Power and DiscoAction.Quality music that makes the party rock . He has also been in demand recently for more house orientated sets, showcasing the soulful,Jazz and Latin sides of House music.
