Simon Lee

Simon Lee

(Faze Action) DJ Biography May 2006

Simon Lee began collecting records when he was 14

Moving from funk and rare groove in the late 80s through to New York disco classics and out the other side into all manner of strange and wonderful records. Simon started DJing in 1987, putting his extensive collection of dance music to good use. A series of dead end jobs in West End record shops also led to Simon translating his obsession with early eighties New York disco from other people's vinyl to dreams of releasing his own music.

He came to prominence, alongside his brother Robin, in the late 90’s as one half of the production duo Faze Action. Their underground seminal track ‘In The Trees’ from the Nuphonic Records album ‘Plans & Designs’ broke down barriers; house DJs played it along jazz DJs and everyone in between. Their follow up album ‘Moving Cities’ saw them break down further barriers with its’ use of afrobeat and latin influences.

In turn this led to a higher demand for Simon to DJ and as a result he has played clubs and festivals all over the globe from Australia to San Francisco to Japan, and is a regular fixture on the European circuit. Simon has also hit the decks with his brother Robin at festivals such as Creamfields and Homelands.

Faze Action released their third album ‘Broad Souls’ in 2004. The single ‘We Don’t Know How’ shot straight into #1 on the UK DK Magazine Breaks & Beats chart. 2005 saw Faze Action re-release ‘Kariba’ from Moving Cities with new mixes from Copyright and in 2006 they released ‘Waiting Is Over’ featuring Vanessa Freeman on Papa Records. Look out for the soon to be released ‘Later’ compiled and mixed by Faze Action on Seamless Recordings.

Simon Lee’s set comprises a wild mix of Nu Jazz, Beats, House,

Boogie, Funk, Afro beat, Disco, Latin and anything that has soul.

As the Faze Action DJs, Simon and his brother Robin, are monthly resident DJ at the Big Chill Bar, London and the Cube & Star, London.
